IN A recent episode of podcast “Where Everybody Knows Your Name”, Ted Danson sat down with “Abbott Elementary” star and creator Quinta Brunson who revealed her family were die-hard “Cheers” fans.
She recalled how she watched the show as a child, but truly began to appreciate its craftsmanship in reruns as a teenager.
“Cheers felt like a play. Everyone was very grounded,” she explained. “I remember thinking that Diane was so grounded. I almost felt like she wasn’t acting.”
As the interview progressed, Brunson couldn’t resist the urge to FaceTime her mother, explaining that her mother would “be so proud of me if I FaceTimed and she could see you.”
When she then joked that her dad was more “inclined” to pick up the call, she took her phone out of her bag and dialled him. “He actually might freak out too,” she added, with a laugh.
When her father answered and saw Danson on the screen, he was visibly surprised but delighted. “I was just watching him do those commercials telling the woman about the towers,” he said, referring to Danson’s famous Geico ads.

Danson, ever the charmer, responded warmly, “Your daughter’s amazing. I’m sure it all came from you. It’s a pleasure to say hi.”
Her father humbly replied, “Well it came from you guys too. You guys in your earlier days of cinema and TV. That’s all we did. Was watch and learn.”
Danson appeared genuinely humbled by the praise.
