IN her concession speech, Vice President Kamala Harris vowed to continue fighting for the values at the heart of her campaign, despite the election loss.
"Sometimes the fight takes a while. That doesn’t mean we won’t win," Harris told supporters, reaffirming her commitment to progress and justice.
Harris, the first Black woman and first South Asian to be the presidential nominee of a major political party, spoke on issues such as women's rights, gun violence, and democracy. "I will never give up the fight for a future where Americans can pursue their dreams, ambitions and aspirations," she said, adding that women should have the freedom to make decisions about their own bodies. She also addressed the need for stronger gun control, declaring, "We will never give up the fight to protect our schools and our streets from gun violence."
The Vice President also reaffirmed her commitment to protecting American democracy, stressing the importance of equal justice and upholding civil rights: "We will never give up the fight for our democracy, for the rule of law, for equal justice, and for the sacred idea that every one of us... has certain fundamental rights and freedoms that must be respected and upheld."
Harris closed with a message of perseverance, urging her supporters to stay engaged in the fight for a better future: "This is a time to organise, to mobilise and to stay engaged for the sake of freedom and justice and the future that we all know we can build together."
