BRITISH comedian Travis Jay has announced that his sitcom Rum Punch has been commissioned for a full series by Radio 4, following the success of its pilot episode that aired in March.
Jay, who is also the son of renowned comedian Annie Le Mar, currently tours with his stand-up show, Travisty, and appears in Netflix's Supacell.
Rum Punch features Jay in the role of Marley, a conflict-averse aspiring boxer balancing his dreams with the responsibilities of working at his parents' Caribbean restaurant in South London. The show humorously explores themes of family dynamics and personal ambition.
The pilot episode received positive feedback and is still available to listen to on BBC Sounds. The new series is set to debut in 2025.
The pilot featured a talented cast, including comics Eddie Nestor, Kevin J, and Kevin Garry, known for his role in Ted Lasso. While the full cast for the series has not yet been confirmed, Maureen Hibbert, Letitia Hector, and musician FaceintheNews also appeared in the pilot.
The series was commissioned by Julia McKenzie, Radio 4’s commissioning editor for comedy and entertainment, and produced by Avalon.
Travis Jay shared the news on X, expressing his gratitude to supporters: "Guys, we did it," he said. "My sitcom #RumPunch🍹 has been picked up for a full series by The BBC! Thank you to everyone who supported the pilot—every repost, every stream, all the love has pushed this show to a full series! Rum Punch will be dropping in 2025! 🍹"
Fans can look forward to more laughter and Caribbean flavour when Rum Punch returns to the airwaves next year.
